The sinking of the Brockenhuus

Brockenhuus left Egeskov to his son, the highly educated Laurids Brockenhuus, who, like his father, served both in the war and as lord of Nyborg. Laurids Brockenhuus became known for his severity towards his daughter Rigborg. He had her locked in a room on Egeskov when she became pregnant out of wedlock with Lieutenant Frederik Rosenkrantz during her service with the country's queen at the court of Christian IV.

Laurid's widow, Karen Skram, passed the farm on to her daughter's husband, Hans Pogwisch. Pogwisch traded Egeskov for an estate on Lolland in 1615 when Egeskov fell into the hands of the brothers Jakob and Frands Ulfeldt. The Ulfeldt family was one of the most important noble families of the 17th century - of which the Chancellor Jakob Ulfeldt and later his son Corfitz Ulfeldt, who was convicted as a traitor, particularly stood out.
