In the past, farmers lived in Brè, today the place is a popular residential area for the fusion community of Lugano. The inviting landscape has inspired numerous artists. The Pasquale Gilardi from the village, called "Lelèn", and Luigi Taddei worked in Brè, the Swiss painter Wilhelm Schmid (1892-1971) and the Hungarian Josef Biró (1887-1975) also found their adopted home in the village.
