The Schlegeisspeicher is one of the five reservoirs in the Zillertal and primarily serves to generate electricity. Above the lake is a large refuge. The view here is fantastic, especially the view of the dam is impressive. Incidentally, this can be visited as part of a dam wall.

At 725 meters, the Schlegeis reservoir has the longest dam of the VERBUND hydroelectric power plants. A total of 126.5 million cubic meters of water can be stored. But the reservoir is not only attractive because of its size - a unique mountain world awaits above its dam.
The toll road to the Schlegeis leads up several bends to the free parking lot. The toll road closes in mid-October and reopens in spring.

Contrary to his name, the water in the reservoir was not as cold as expected - with caution, the cooling is still, as it is very deep very quickly.
There seems to be some fish in the lake, at least local fish have to be declared as "from here".
The dam is freely accessible and a view of both the lake and on the so-called via ferrata (actually a ladder with rope) and on the really heavy, screwed into the overhanging wall climbing routes are worthwhile.
