The lake was used as a fishing pond until the Mannheim-Stuttgart high-speed line was built. The Freudenstein Tunnel runs through the mountain northeast of the lake. The lake was drained on June 22, 2009 and was empty about 10 days later, much faster than expected. Between 50,000 and 60,000 fish were recovered. The sludge then dried out and mineralized. Experts hope that the reduction will lead to a long-term improvement in the ecological situation. It is now considered a “sky pond”, meaning it gets its water primarily from precipitation. Regular fishing and release as before no longer takes place. Since then there has not been as much water in the lake as before.
Just take a look.
