Tips

  • The second oldest climatic health resort in Mecklenburg is located directly on the shore of one of the most beautiful lakes in the country. Numerous hills, some of which are wooded, surround the bay-rich shore zones.

  • Pretty town with a synagogue and church.

In 1866 the Jewish community of Krakow built a synagogue on the school square. It is one of the few Jewish places of worship in Mecklenburg that survived the destruction of 1938. The reason was that it had been sold as a gymnasium as a gymnasium as early as 1920 to the “Fichte” workers' gymnastics and sports association, which used it until 1986. Since 1986 it has been used as a cultural center and as Krakow am See information center.

The town church, a brick building in the Romanesque-Gothic transition style from the 13th century, later redesigned several times.

It is highly recommended to drive along the lake, up to the small peninsulas. The paths are easy to navigate, and you can enjoy changing views of the lake. The memorial stone (erected in 1910) to Fritz Reuter is also located here.

  • The old synagogue is one of the few in northeast Germany that has been preserved in its original form. On December 12, 1866 the synagogue was inaugurated by 110 parishioners.
In 1920 it was sold to the city because the community had been greatly reduced. Since then, it has been used as a gym for many decades.
After extensive renovation work, the Old Synagogue was opened to the public in 1995. Today it is the seat of the culture department, the city of Krakow am See and the cultural association "Old Synagogue". In the former prayer room, exhibitions, concerts and readings take place at regular intervals.
