The former residential palace of the princes and later dukes of Anhalt-Bernburg, also known as the Crown of Anhalt, rises on a high sandstone cliff on the eastern bank of the Saale. The Museum Schloss Bernburg is housed in the old house and crooked house of the castle. The torture exhibition provides an insight into the dark part of the Middle Ages. The Anhalt mineral collection can be seen in the Johann-Georg-Bau. The German Cabaret Archive has been documenting the history of GDR cabaret in the same building since 2004.
