The memorial was set up in August 1984 by the Kassel University with the support of the Hessian State Welfare Association. It is located on the site of the former Benedictine monastery in Breitenau. The history of the former camp from the Nazi era is presented. In the memorial there is an exhibition by the artist Stephan von Borstel, in which the history of the town of Breitenau is explained to the visitor through artistic means.
