The Carlo e Massimo Semenza Refuge is located in the high Val de Piera, in the Col Nudo-Cavallo group, at an altitude of 2,020 m asl. It is named after Carlo Semenza, engineer and mountaineer, one of the most expert dam designers and builders of the time. including that of Vajont.
In 1925 Carlo Semenza founded the section of the Italian Alpine Club of Vittorio Veneto, to which the refuge belongs. Two weeks after his death, in December 1961, the Council approved the construction of a refuge in his memory at Forcella Lastè. The works began the following year, in June 1962. The official inauguration took place on September 22, 1963. In that period, from 1959 to September 1965, Massimo Semenza, first son of Carlo, also an engineer and mountaineer, was president of the section. , who died in July 1979.
On June 26, 1983, with the inauguration of the winter bivouac, the name of the refuge was changed to Carlo and Massimo Semenza. The following year, in October 1984, the bivouac was moved to Forcella Lastè, in its current position. The refuge, with 18 beds, is open every day from 15 June to 15 September. It is also open on weekends until October.
The current management is entrusted to Nadia Benetti and her husband Franco Perlotto, a great mountaineer of the 70s-80s with over two thousand ascents in almost fifty countries around the world, and former manager of the Bocalatte Refuge at Grandes Jorasses.

Cozy rifugio with a nice landlady. The winter room is the Bivacco (Red Tin Can, 12 beds) on the other side of the pass. No drinking water, only rainwater.
