The Regge River has become a natural, meandering river again thanks to its restoration. A river that winds through the landscape retains water longer during dry periods. There are also water storage areas in the Regge Valley, which can be flooded during wet periods to prevent flooding elsewhere.
To prevent droughts, water levels are regulated by weirs. The Notter Weir has a long, fixed sill that ensures the water level remains at the correct level.
On the other side of the river is a fish ladder that allows fish to pass through the weir to reach their spawning grounds.
