The construction of today's facility began in the 12th or the beginning of the 13th century. A castle was built on the rock behind the current facility. In 1444 the castle including the mill, gate and barn was burned down. A few years later the origin of today's castle emerged. In 1694 part of the castle collapsed. The reconstruction was combined with restoration and expansion. Almost at the same time the construction of a separate chapel began. The castle and the unfinished chapel were ravaged again by a fire in 1695. Reconstruction began only a few days later.

Hiking

There are people who are very lucky in their lives and others who keep struggling with difficulties. There are also houses that are simply lucky - they were built in a beautiful location with an excellent view. Klingenberg Castle is one of them. It sits ten kilometers northeast of Frauenfeld on the southern slopes of the Seerücken with an unobstructed view of the Alpstein and the Glarus Alps. And despite its stately home, the castle looks back on a difficult life.
