Malchow

The island town of Malchow lies with its old town core on an island between the Malchower lake and the Fleesensee and connects over the earth dam and the swing bridge both banks, on which it has spread on gently rising hills. Modern and down-to-earth architecture is well-interwoven with each other and alleys open up to reveal the view of the water and green meadows and forests.
First documented in 1147, Malchow was a textile town until 1990. Some partially restored, heritage-protected industrial buildings testify to this today. In addition to trade and commerce, today tourism is an important pillar. Conveniently located at the intersection between the A19 and the Müritz-Elde waterway, the island town of Malchow is the ideal base for any type of tourist activity. The monastery church of the monastery Malchow existed as Feldsteinkirche demonstrably from 1235. From 1844 to 1846 initially a 52 m high brick tower was added, for optical reasons, then from 1847 to 1849, the nave was renewed to plans by Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel. After a fire in 1888, the church was rebuilt in 1890 to designs by Georg Daniel in the style of neo-Gothic and now serves as an exhibition space of the organ museum and as a venue for concerts and wedding ceremonies.
