The beautifully situated chapel is said to have been built around 1650/60 after the Thirty Years' War by a devout Ettenheimer to fulfill a vow. The chapel has been expanded several times, most recently adding the porch with basket arches in 1954. The chapel is a great place for a break on your hike.

The Kahlenberg Chapel is a small pilgrimage chapel located above Ringsheim and Ettenheim in the Ortenau district.
It was built in the 17th century (after the Thirty Years' War) and is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows. Formerly an important pilgrimage site, it is still used for religious services and processions.
The chapel is idyllically situated in the vineyards on the Kahlenberg hill and offers a beautiful view across the Rhine plain.
