The Almer pit in Tegernheim is an exploited gravel pit that was built between 1961 and 1976. The pit, which is now completely filled with water, is up to 5 meters deep, up to 250 meters wide and runs parallel to the Danube for around 2 kilometers. After the gravel mining ended, an important habitat for bird species that have become rare developed here.
