The oak is named after the former tenant of the Steiningen hunting area, whose favorite place was under this oak. Because of his peasant character, the deceased's widow symbolically had a wooden shoe with a bouquet of fir from his home, the Lower Rhine, attached.

Quercus robur, germinated around 1770; approx. 20 m high.

The "Hülsermann-Eiche" natural monument is located in the Steiningen forest district "Lehnwald". Their age is estimated to be more than 300 years. The magnificent tree is the last of a once larger oak stock that has been completely felled. The oak is named after Arnold Hülsermann, who was a tenant in Steiningen several decades ago. He bought the oak tree to keep it from being cut down. It was the center of his hunting district and one of his favorite places in the area. In the meantime, Hülsermann, who lived on a farm on the Lower Rhine, has died. After his death in 1969, his wife had a wooden shoe nailed to the trunk in connection with a ceremony during which a resting bench was set up on the oak tree. At that time it was decorated with fir vines from Hülsermanns Gutshof. This shoe still adorns the beautiful oak. The original bench is no longer under the tree, but a cozy resting place has been set up in the immediate vicinity, from which the tree Methuselah can be admired in peace.

A bench with a table and a view of the Hülsermann oak, a beautiful place.
