Connected to the art forge is the "Schmiedecafe"

The café (including the exhibition there) is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.! It can be reached from Oberkirchen in about 10 minutes on foot via the cycle path in the direction of Westfeld.

The art forge is located in the "Black Factory". Individual works made of bronze, copper and wrought iron have been made there since 1974. Works of art for home and garden are presented on an area of around 2000 square meters.

The charcoal factory was built in 1878 by the manufacturer Otto Schütte. Official operations began a year later. The former charcoal factory, which the locals still call the “Black Factory”, processed beech charcoal in particular. The coal burned in the surrounding forests was processed into charcoal powder, coal semolina, briquettes and barbecue charcoal. At its peak from 1920 to 1930, over 100 workers worked in the factory. In the last century, the factory also supplied the surrounding towns with self-generated electricity from its own water turbines.
