Witton Country Park is a 480-acre area of parkland, farmland, grassland and woodland on the edge of Blackburn. The river Darwen flows through it. The Witton estate was created in around 1800 and then passed to the army in the early 1900's. It was gifted to Blackburn in 1946. The house was found to be infected with dry rot and had to be demolished in 1952.
Today it's a large area of brilliant outdoor space much loved and used by locals and visitors. The trails make great running routes and the venue hosts several cross country running events as well as a Saturday morning parkrun each week.

Around half of the country park is mixed woodland and parkland, while the rest is either farmland or rough grassland with open access. A visitors' centre features stables with exhibitions of old horse-drawn farm machinery, farm hand-tools and a natural history room. A mammal centre houses shrews, voles, ferrets, rabbits and other animals, which are on display.
