Raghavendra Swami was an hindu saint who lived in the 1600s. Born at Bhuvanagiri near Chidambaram (70 kms from here) and become a scholar at Kumbakonam (35 kms from here). His sanyasa ordination took place at Vadavaru River bank of Thanjavur in 1621, in the presence of “Shri Raghunatha Bhoopal” a Nayaka King and from then on, he is known as “Shri Raghavendra Theertha”. Relieving the poverty in Tanjore, he did Thapas (penance) for 12 years, where this Brindavana is located. To spread the benefit of his Thapas, his divine grace and blessings, he travelled around the Country.

This is a tranquil temple situated at the banks of the river Vadavar. The temple is usually open from early morning 5 AM till noon. Opening times vary.
