The discovery of a bronze belt hook in Hölzelsau testifies that the area was inhabited as early as 400 BC. In the "Indiculus Arnonis", a list of donations from the Bavarian dukes, another church is noted for the years 788/790 alongside the parish of Ebbs. Since these are dedicated to St. Georg was consecrated, the church in Niederndorf is probably meant. The first documented mention dates back to 1230. In the Bavarian-ducal Urbar, taxes from Niederndorf are listed, including money, cattle, wine, oats and wheat.
