The top of Cheetham Close is not only a superb viewpoint but also of great historical significance. Hikers are rewarded with a vista including the Peel Monument, Winter Hill and the Rossendale moors.

Once a druidical ritual place, the remains of a stone circle can still be seen today, despite the fact they were purposefully damaged by a farmer from Turton in the 1870s. The circle measured 61 feet (18.5 m) in diameter and is thought to have originated from the early Bronze Age.
