Top cycling routes to Neudorfer Moor Nature Reserve

Tips

  • The "Neudorfer Moor" nature reserve is a rewetting area. The "Neudorfer Moor" nature reserve belongs to the formerly same moor complex as the Lengener Meer and the Stapeler Moor. It is a rewetting area of great importance. Here you can observe many different bird species from an observation tower on the east side. A colony of black-headed gulls settled here a few years ago. Black-necked grebes, for example, also breed under their protection. On the west side there are two covered wooden pavilions with further information about the nature reserve. In summer, the cycle path along the Neudorfer Moor is characterized by the numerous occurrence of dragonflies. The 338-hectare nature reserve preserves a comparatively small section of the formerly huge East Frisian central moors. The area is intended to serve as a retreat and habitat for animal and plant species typical of raised moors, especially after renaturation.
