The road from the Isère Valley to Autrans, which runs through the tunnel (e), was built for the 1968 Grenoble Olympic Games. Cross-country skiing and biathlon competitions were held in Autrans, and the ski jumping hill there also dates from this time. Since the road is endangered by falling rocks, it was left to decay.
