The Frasassi caves are underground karst caves. The complex is made up of an enormous series of underground environments of which the first, which can be easily visited by the public, is the Ancona Abyss, an enormous cavity which has an extension of 180 x 120 m and a height of 200 m; it is so large (over 2 million m3 of volume) that the Milan Cathedral could be contained within it without problems.
