What about the frogs? The legend tells the following: Count Anton zu Ysenburg and Büdingen had married Elisabeth von Wied. But when after the lavish party of the newlywed couple finally retired to the bedchamber, the young bride found no rest all night: The loud croaking of the frogs in the castle pond disturbed her so much that she threatened her husband vigorously “Do something or I travel ab “The citizens were shooed out of the beds at night and all frogs were collected in a spectacular action.
The castle was now quiet until noon, but it croaked to the market square all the more because the Büdingen had brought the green animals here. What now? After a long discussion, the city council finally made the white decision to throw the frogs at the Mühltor Bridge into the stream. So it happened and since then the young countess has never complained about frogs croaking too loudly. Since then, frogs and Büdingen have belonged together, making the frogs the symbol of the city.
