The monument is on the Napoleon Cycle Path. It commemorates one of the two battles on October 14, 1806 in the 4th coalition war. In the so-called double battle of Jena and Auerstedt, the French troops under Napoleon beat the Prussian army.
The Napoleon cycle path therefore also leads from Jena to Auerstedt.
