A walking trip to Helfenburg is always breathtaking at any time of the year

The castle was probably built by the Lords of Klinštejn, originating from Ronovci, in the first half of the 14th century. The founder was probably Jan z Klinštejn, who started writing after Helfenburg,[2] but in 1375 the Prague archbishop Jan Očko z Vlašimi bought the castle. The archbishop thus created a rural base in the woods to stay outside of nearby Roudnica nad Labem, where he exercised his office.[3] Helfenburk became the center of the estate, which also included the nearby Hřídelík castle. His successor, the third Archbishop of Prague Jan z Jenštejn, also stayed here for a short time. Jewels, relics and books from the Prague Cathedral of St. Welcome. From 1395, there is a record of the prior of Roudnice Peter Klarifikátor, the personal chronicler of Archbishop Jan of Jenštejn, about Jan's accident on the bridge leading from the new tower, during which he almost collapsed. Jan stayed here until around 1400, i.e. even at the time when he was already deprived of his office.[3] In 1422, it was acquired by Burgrave Aleš of Malíkovice, then Bishop Konrád of Vechta spent years here hiding from the king's displeasure (he died here in 1431).

There is a sufficient parking lot under the castle. And then there is a pleasant, approx. 15-minute ascent to the castle. Huge anthills line the forest road. I think the entry is reasonable.
