Tips

  • St. Anna Chapel
According to old oral traditions, a so-called neighborhood cross made of wood was supposed to have stood in Pleiserhohn in earlier times. The property boundary between the current Müller and Koch properties in Zur Sandkaule Street is believed to be a possible location. The residents of our villages held prayers at this neighborhood cross and the rosary was prayed when people died, which was still quite common at the time and particularly affected many children. This custom has been preserved in our villages to this day. It cannot be determined whether Holy Mass was also held at this cross.
The villagers were called together to take part in prayers and prayers with a special horn. This horn, a large yellow ox horn with a mouth pipe, is still in the chapel today. The year 1771 is engraved into this horn.
The neighborhood cross can certainly be seen as the forerunner of a permanent and covered place of prayer. The chapel was built in 1885.
From then on, the chapel seems to have been the center of village life, as in the following years there were repeated entries in the neighborhood book concerning the maintenance and care of the chapel.(This information was taken from the following homepage: pleiserhohn.de/?page_id=35)

  • Saint Anne is the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary - not attested in the biblical texts - but she is mentioned in apocryphal writings (i.e. not included in the canon of the Bible), for example in the so-called "Proto-Gospel of James". There is no historically reliable knowledge about Anna's life, but there are numerous traditional stories that are summarized, for example, in the medieval "Legenda Aurea" by the Dominican monk Jacobus de Voragine. Among other things, she is the patroness of Anna's Church in Düren, where a piece of her skull is kept as a relic. Her memorial day is - together with her husband Joachim - on July 26th.
