    In Travemünder Hafen old and new lie side by side: Here you can experience windjammers, fishing trawlers, steam icebreakers and ferry giants up close. The arrival and departure of the large ferries, freighters and cruise ships makes you want to wanderlust.

    The first steamships (1820) brought travelers from Copenhagen, Riga and St. Petersburg to Travemünde.

    The port got its present appearance in the 1960s. With the construction of the Skandinavienkai in 1962, the port received eight jetties, three of which were for rail transport. This makes the port of Travemünde one of the largest ferry ports in Northern Europe. From the Skandinavienkai the ferries run to the Scandinavian countries, Poland and Russia and the Baltic countries. Today, up to two million passengers use these ferry connections every year.
