Located in the center of the municipality of Riegsee directly on the lake shore, St. Stephan is a real gem. The church was built in the 15th century and received the Baroque reconstruction in 1740, as we can still see it today.

Cycling

The Romanesque parts of the tower suggest that it was built between 1000 and 1200. A parish called "rochse" is mentioned in the Pähler deanery register in the 13th century. In 1246, a dispute broke out over the rights to this parish between the Habach Canonry and Counts Heinrich and Berthold von Eschenlohe-Lichtenegg. In 1491, Riegsee was placed under the control of the Habach Canonry by a bull from Pope Innocent VIII.
