Favorable climate and abundance of water have favored human settlements in this area since prehistoric times. Fontan Tempesta is located on the path of the stream that from Monte Cavo reached the lake of Nemi once rich in water but today even dry in the hottest periods. Around this area there are numerous tunnels probably used to channel the water towards the three Roman villas on the western side of Lake Nemi in Le Piagge.
