75 kilometers of Upper German Limes, the former border between the Roman Empire and the Germanic tribal areas, run here. About 18.5 kilometers of the Limes route run through the Neuwied districts. Because of this, an initiative was launched to present it accordingly. So far, watchtowers and a fort have been uncovered and a route has been provided with information boards on which the individual sentries have been marked with their location.
