The Candelaber monument is visible from afar on the Johannisberg. It was built at the suggestion of the woodcutter Nicolaus Brückner from Altenbergen in 1811 and is a reminder of the historical significance of the place. The really first church in Thuringia, the Johanniskirche, stood here, which was built by Winfried Bonifatius as early as 724/25. It was a small baptistery, Boniface preached here and converted the Thuringians to the Christian faith.

From the monument you have a great view of the country, you can linger on the many benches between the meadow flowers and enjoy the view.
