The Chapel was built in 1933 by the will of the Archbishop of Milan, Ildefonso Schuster, to replace a pre-existing building whose records date back to 1573, the year of Carlo Borromeo's pastoral visit to Siziano. Initially the church was dedicated to Santa Maria dei Prati. But legend has it that a peasant woman witnessed a snowfall one hot afternoon on August 5, 1480. Hence the name "Sancta Maria ad Nives" Santa Maria alle nevi.
In 1600, following frequent epidemics, it was transformed into a Lazzaretto thanks to its equidistant position between Lacchiarella and the center of Siziano and because it was immersed in the countryside. The same fate befell the church in 1865 when Siziano was hit by a cholera epidemic.
