The Schmücke is the highest settlement on the Rennsteig in the Thuringian Forest, consisting of a hotel, the Baudensaal rucksack meeting and a weather station.
The adornment was first mentioned in 1516 when there was a wooden hut called Schneehaus. At this point, where the Salzmannstrasse (old trade route from Elgersburg to Suhl) and the Hamburger Strasse between Oberhof and Frauenwald crossed the Rennsteig, there used to be simple shelters (Wikipedia).
