Whitfell is a 1,880-foot (573 m) hill in the Lake District National Park. Its summit is marked by a very large cairn with a storm shelter off the side. There is also a trig pillar on the summit plateau. Alfred Wainwright described the walking of these fells as 'unexciting' but 'its demerits are fully compensated by the excellence of the views'. This made this fell a perfect one to walk in the wake of the corona virus pandemic. Nobody else around, carefree easy walking but marvellous views across south west Lakeland. Bliss!
