About 150 million years ago there was a deep lagoon in the tropical Jurassic Sea in what is now the Westerberg above Nusplingen. Tender lime sludge has collected in this: the Nusplinger plate limestone. Special fossils were found in this rock, such as pterosaurs, crocodiles and sea angels, and ray-like sharks. As in the past, the finds delight experts, make Nusplingen world famous and attract many visitors to our community year after year. The more common finds in the limestone include shrimp up to 25 centimeters long, as well as perfectly preserved ammonites. For the Stuttgart specialists, Dr. Günter Schweigert and Dr. Gerd Dietl also the petrified pearl boats. The two geologists have repeatedly dealt with the Nusplinger fossil finds. No wonder that these two Nusplingers by choice always have so many interesting things to report on their tours through the quarry!
