The first documented farms were in today's Elmelage and Hausstette in 890 and in today's Carum around 970. The name Becheim appeared for the first time in the 11th century, which then changed to Bakum via Bachum, which can be considered a Latinized form of the name.

An epitaph from the von Voß family is placed in the entrance to the parish church of St. Johannes Baptist.
