The Halde Norddeutschland is a mining dump of the Niederberg mine in Neukirchen-Vluyn.The dumping of the heap by the mine was completed in March 2001. The heap, which is considered a burning heap, has an area of 81 hectares and is 102 meters high at its highest point. 80 million tons of rock are stored in the heap. The heap can be seen from the Federal Highway 57. Above all, the "hall house" stands on one of the peaks in the eye. The skeletal house in the form of a steel scaffolding is a work of art of the Dutch group "Observatory", which has also designed other landmarks and objects in the Ruhr area. The house marks several functions in the landscape park Niederrhein: it welcomes passengers on the surrounding highways and is a meeting place and venue that can be rented for private and business events by the Regionalverband Ruhr (RVR).The heap also has a Himmelstreppe, with the direct access to the Haldentop. This 52 meters are overcome. Partly, the staircase rises like a bridge from the bottom to run straight and protect existing vegetation like a reed area. The remodeling was completed at the end of April 2010 with the opening of the approximately 600-meter panorama path. In the evenings, it is marked with 250 LED lamps recessed in the floor. By light-emitting diodes in the handrail of the Himmelstreppe an ascent and descent is possible even in the dark. In addition, the hall house is illuminated. The local sports club has signed a route that is interesting for many endurance athletes and includes three levels of difficulty. The longest and hardest route, which is marked in black, has a length of seven kilometers and must overcome 206 meters of altitude. In addition, there is a special difficulty a small slope, you can not ride on the bike. There is also a red and a blue track - with the latter, however, the Haldentop is not reached. In addition, the heap is used by riders, downhill riders, hikers and walkers, paraglider pilots, hang-gliders and model flyers. For paragliding, the "Fliegerfreunde Niederrhein" carry out the flight operations.Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halde_Norddeutschland

The Halde Norddeutschland offers next to a seemingly never-ending stairs climb, a wonderful panorama and ingenious trails for us mountain bikers.
In the early hours of the morning, newbies like myself can try out "undisturbed" without hindering the true masters.

The 81 hectare and at the highest point 102 meters high heap Northern Germany is the former mountain dump of the former mine Niederberg whose bed was completed in March 2001. More than 80 million tonnes of tailings, non-coal bearing coal from coal mining, have been piled up in the past decades to form this impressive mountain backdrop in the otherwise "flat land" and form the flagship project of the Landschaftspark NiederRhein. Since 2002, the heap has been released from the supervision of the mountain and is open to everyone at any time.

This heap is unique. First, the great overview of the fantastic landscape. Then the many activities that people do: hang gliding, model airplanes, kiting, look and enjoy.
And the idea that this huge mountain on which you stand has been taken out of the earth and is now missing there!
