The weir dams up the Rhine by around 10 meters at the level of the towns of Dogern (Germany) and Leibstadt (Switzerland). It has five weir openings, each 25 meters wide. Two openings are on the German side and three on the Swiss side. The shooters are raised or lowered using the electrically driven winches in the service bridge. By completely raising the gates at four openings, the highest flood water of around 5,200 m³/s can be removed.

Here you can change sides of the Rhine by bike at any time. Of course, running is also possible. So you can plan your tour alternating between Germany and Switzerland.
