    Hercules Fountain, Augsburg
The Hercules Fountain was completed in 1602. The casts were made by Adriaen de Vries. Along with the Mercury Fountain, it is one of the greatest works the artist ever created. The hero Hercules slays the Hydra, a multi-headed water serpent. Naiads, Tritons, and goose-shrikes frolic on the fountain's pillar.

Great city center, where there is still a lot going on in the evenings on the streets and in the many restaurants and bars. The many historic buildings and their history are really worth a visit.

The Augsburg magnificent fountains – Augustus, Mercury and Hercules fountains

Three magnificently decorated Renaissance bronze fountains along Augsburg's Maximilianstrasse.

The Augsburg fountains symbolize the estate system of the imperial city: the triad of lords, merchants and craftsmen. The Augustus fountain stands for the noble class, the Mercury fountain for the merchant class and the Hercules fountain represents the craft class.

The Augustus Fountain, the oldest and most figurative of Augsburg's three magnificent fountains, is located on the town hall square. The fountain is dominated by a figure of Augustus. This measures 2.5 meters in height and weighs 27 hundredweight. In addition to Augustus, there are four other fountain figures that symbolize the four rivers of Augsburg: Lech, Wertach, Singold and Brunnenbach.

From 1596 to 1600, the Hercules and Mercury fountains were designed by Adriaen de Vries. Because of the damage caused by environmental influences, the fountain bronzes were replaced with copies. The restored originals are displayed in the covered inner courtyard of the Maximilian Museum.
