A very beautiful castle, very impressive and certainly the landmark of Kerpen. The castle cannot be visited as it is privately owned, but that is completely fine, you don't have to visit every castle. It's great to hike around the castle and it's also fun to just see the castle.

The exact beginnings of Kerpen Castle lie in the dark of history. It is very likely that its builder was Sigibertus de Kerpene, first mentioned in a document in 1136, or his son Heinrich I (1142–1177). An exact date of construction cannot yet be given. From 1911 until his death, the castle was owned by the famous "Eifel painter" Fritz von Wille. When the artist died in 1941, he was buried on the hill behind the castle. Source: Wikipedia
