    "Buchental" quarry
Here, in 1926, large amounts of rock were processed into stone in quarrying plants for the construction of the Nürburgring and transported to the construction sites with trucks. Back then, the rail network on which steam-powered locomotives moved these trucks was almost 50 kilometers long.

For the construction of the “Nürburgs-Ring” in 1926/27, large amounts of basalt and greywacke gravel had to be extracted from the twelve surrounding quarries. As can be seen in the “Buchental”, large stone crushing plants were used to crush the material to the required size. From there, the ballast was transported to the construction sites by lorries. Up to 19 steam-powered locomotives were in use on an almost 50 km long railway network ("Et Bähnche").
