For the first time in 1385, a fortified "house" was mentioned as a castle count's possession, which, due to its location directly on the Regnitz, probably served to secure the river crossing.

After its destruction in 1388, it was rebuilt.
Margrave Johannes (1401 to 1464) resided here, who was also called the "alchemist" because of his interest in chemistry and who is said to have introduced horseradish to Baiersdorf.

The castle was destroyed in 1553 and then remained in ruins for around 50 years. Reconstruction began in 1627. It should no longer be a fortified castle, but rather a Renaissance palace for a margravial princely seat.

Over the centuries the castle was destroyed three times and after the third destruction in 1632 it was never rebuilt.

In 1892 the ruins were completely removed.

Today only a memorial stone in the Regnitz meadows commemorates the former landmark of Baiersdorf.
