On a more than 600 meters high and steeply sloping volcanic cone towers the ruin Hohenkrähen above Schlatt. The way up is actually quite narrow and meanders right up the cliff face up to the castle ruin. For the rocky ascent you will be rewarded with a fantastic view and an exciting castle ruin.

Rise not easy, but worth it for the view.

Rocky climb to the summit, you almost feel transported to the Alps.
Good shoes are required. But all the more difficult passages are
insured. Take care with children anyway. Again, great views, especially the Hohentwiel

The Hohenkrähen is one of the highest volcanic cones of the Hegau with 644m above sea level. NN.
From the ruins you have a good view of the fortress Hohentwiel, the castle Mägdeberg and the western Lake Constance area.

The path is steep and rocky, but well paved. Surefootedness is nevertheless absolutely necessary! The climb is worthwhile not only because of the magnificent view from the castle ruins, but also from several vantage points on the way.

Grandiose view of the Mägdeberg, the Hohentwiel, the Zeller See with the Mettnau, the Reichenau and - with luck - the Glarus Alps with the Säntis

Beautiful view over Hegau, Höri and Seerücken, to the north to the southern foothills of the Black Forest. Exciting castle ruins on a rugged volcanic cone. At the foot of the ruin also the ancestral seat of the Scouting Association "Gray Rider".

If you don't want to have fun climbing all the way to the top, you should at least fight your way up to the first view level. But the way to the top is definitely worth it!
Even if the ascent is steep and stony / rocky, a steel rope led all the way up to the makeshift railing. Despite everything, the following applies again: good shoes 🥾and no flip-flops👆🏻.

Very crisp and quite demanding ascent, with holding aids attached to the critical passages.

"Hohenkrähen" is the proper name of the mountain. As such, he is usually neither separated nor inflected. If someone is looking for "high crows", he finds nothing appropriate.

The Hohenkrähen castle ruins are worth a climb for all friends who like steep climbs over narrow paths and are not afraid that it could be a bit more strenuous. The ascent is partly secured with a steel cable. At the top, several points await you with a magnificent view of the Hegau landscape to Lake Constance and the Swiss Alps. There is plenty of seating and also fire pits. The highest point of the fortress looks more like a mountain top than a fortress. It is decorated with a flag. The whole fortress area has grown overgrown. The paths are narrow. You should take good care of small children so that you don't lose them up there. In any case, the ruin is an absolute must for hikers who are out and about in Hegau.
