Best Hikes to Hoher Berg Observation Tower

Tips

  • The 58 meter high "Hohe Berg" is the highest elevation in the Weser Marsh area around Bremen. The 13 meter high observation tower was built in 2010 as part of a student architecture competition. After mastering the 72 steps (you should be free from giddiness, as the view between the Stairs down is very nice ;-)) you have a wonderful view towards the Weser, Bremen and the Hachetal - and in general in all directions. At the foot of the tower is a former US anti-aircraft missile site.

  • Until 1987 this was a military area, first American, then German. Here was a missile station with a large radar system. In 2004 the site was acquired by the city of Syke with EU funds for the "Geest Cultural Landscape" project. In 2010 today's observation tower was built.
