The Wienerwaldsee dam is a structure that creates a shallow reservoir in the Vienna Woods. The lake is located 20 km west of Vienna and serves as a flood retention basin for the Vienna River and the Wolfsgrabenbach. The lake was built between 1895 and 1897 and was previously a useful and drinking water reservoir for the Wiental water pipeline. Today the lake is a water protection area and a popular destination for cyclists and walkers. On the northern bank there is a monument to Wilhelm Kress, who had an accident with his seaplane here in 1901.
