In 1928, under the overhang of the steep Adam's Rock, prehistoricist Max Nabe, the director of the Heimatmuseum in Pottenstein, discovered tools from the Middle Stone Age. In 1930 an excavation was carried out here by Günther Tourneau and pits from the Stone Age were found.
