In 1928, under the overhang of the steep Adam's Rock, prehistoricist Max Nabe, the director of the Heimatmuseum in Pottenstein, discovered tools from the Middle Stone Age. In 1930 an excavation was carried out here by Günther Tourneau and pits from the Stone Age were found. In addition to the bones of beaver, deer, deer, wild boar, bear and the remains of other animals, around 600 stone tools were found.
