The ›Old Church‹ is the abbey church of the Schaaken Benedictine Abbey, founded around 1200. Like almost all other monasteries in Germany, this monastery was expropriated (secularization) in 1803 and sold to private customers by the state. The monastery became a manor, and the church became a barn in 1848 - not an unusual occurrence at the time. After a fire caused by lightning in 1913, the building was not restored, but only in 1958 the ruins were protected as a historical monument. For safety reasons (falling rocks) entering the ruins is prohibited.
The cemetery of the estate is fenced in and some tombstones have been preserved.
