The Wendelinuseiche stood east of Bamberg next to a forest path that leads from Geisfeld to Melkendorf. The oak was greened for the last time in 1932 and fell on July 30, 1969. In 1931 the Wendelinuseiche fell victim to an arson attack. The peasant saint St. Wendelinus, protector of the cattle, is said to have preached under the oak. But he never came to this region. In autumn 1997, a secured fragment of the trunk, which was taken from the main trunk at a height of about 10 m, was displayed in a showcase next to the remains of the trunk that can still be seen today. The oldest reports date from the first half of the 19th century.
