A walk through the Fanal area in the north-west of the island leads through a forest with hundred-year-old laurel trees. If you are lucky enough to see how clouds suddenly appear, which “hang in” on this scene, the fantastic landscape becomes a mystical one.

The laurel forest (fairy forest) is located in the area Fanal in the northwest of the island and is part of the large laurel forest area in Madeira. In the fairy forest are trees that are already a few centuries old. Some of them are said to have stood here when Madeira was discovered in 1419. Can you imagine that? These old figures are hung with lichens and mossy, it is cool and humid, often fog here.
