The castle Oefte, also called Haus Oefte, on the south bank of the Ruhr in Essen-Kettwig was a fief of the imperial abbey of Werden in the Middle Ages and was first mentioned in a document in the 9th century. The facility is thus one of the oldest manors in the region.The meaning of the name is roughly "Waldhaus am Fluss". From 1424 to 1938 also the tower called tower of the castle Luttelnau belonged to the Oefter possession
